Born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, Lu Qi graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Fine Arts at the Academy of China in 1982. Subsequently, he took a position teaching in the Fine Arts Department of Hangzhou Normal University, where he remained for many years and was to later become director. Currently he tutors graduate students. Lu is a member of the Chinese Artists' Institute and a director of the Zhejiang Artists' Institute. In 1998, on request from Italy's Apennines Fine Art Institute, Lu Qi went to Europe where he was not only involved in a Fine Arts exchange of key concepts, together with fellow artists Quan Shanshi and Guan Jianxin, but also able to facilitate a solo exhibition, which won the “Community Contribution Prize” that was issued by proxy of the Institute. His work has been honored by hundreds of important awards at home and abroad, including gold at “The 2005 Zhejiang Province Oil Painting Exhibition”. He has held over twenty solo exhibitions and has participated in more than ten international exhibitions. Patrons of his work range across China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, America and Italy, to name but a few and his style continues to inspire many of his contemporaries, as well as the new generation of artists.
